SPRINGFIELD INDIGENOUS ANNOUNCEMENT

Today Milton Dick MP the Federal Member for Oxley was joined by Federal Opposition Leader Bill Shorten and indigenous colleagues Linda Burney MP, Senator Pat Dodson and Senator Malarndirri McCarthy at Hymba Yumba Community Hub to announce a national Indigenous caucus of federal, state and territory MPs aimed at increasing representation, voter enrolment and party representation among Australia's first people's.

“It’s a pleasure to host Bill Shorten here in Springfield alongside my other Labor colleagues for this significant announcement” said Mr Dick.

"The school is another example of the high standards being set in the South West of Brisbane"

"It reinforces the importance of quality education for all of our kids."

"Education is one of my top priorities and in 2017 I'll be stepping up my campaign to fight for more needs based funding to give schools to the resources they deserve" “The teaching and community team at Hymba Yumba do an outstanding job and it’s fantastic to have their hard work recognised by announcing this new initiative at the school”

 On arrival guests were treated to special performance by the year 1 group who performed the national anthem in native language.

 Guests also visited a year 4 classroom to speak with students and see firsthand the important work that the students at Hymba Yumba participate in.

 “We’re fortunate to live in one of the best communities anywhere in Australia and it was great to showcase this today by hosting Labor Leader Bill Shorten at Hymba Yumba” said Mr Dick.
