10th Anniversary of Welcoming the Babies

01 September 2017

This year, the local community will come together to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the Welcoming the Babies ceremony.

Over 200 families are expected to be in attendance to mark the 10 year anniversary on Saturday September 2nd from 10am at Durack State School.

Alongside the South West Progress Association, local representatives Milton Dick MP, Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk and Cr Charles Strunk, will all be in attendance to support this signature local event.

Federal Member for Oxley Milton Dick MP said it was a very special occasion.

“Since first being involved with Welcoming the Babies as Councillor when it began in 2008, I’ve seen it grow from strength to strength” said Mr Dick.

“It’s a fantastic community event that parents and families really embrace.

“The 10th anniversary will be the biggest and best yet to celebrate all the newborns and new parents in our community”.

Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk said it was a special way to welcome some of our newest and youngest residents.

“Welcoming the Babies acknowledges the important job that parents do in our local area” said the Premier.

Councillor for Forest Lake Ward Charles Strunk said his office was already receiving many enquiries from new parents.

“Welcoming the Babies is always a very popular event for our community and we’re expecting a record turnout” said Mr Strunk.

At this year’s event, there will be information available from community groups, child care organisations and lots of fun activities for the whole the family.

Families of newborns will also receive a bounty bag, family portrait and face painting all free of charge.

Since beginning at Durack State School in 2008, over 1,000 babies have been welcomed by the community.

The Welcoming the Babies ceremony is open to babies under 18 months of age. Other families with young children are also welcome to attend.
