I’m happy to report that last month construction commenced on the highly anticipated National Broadband Network (NBN) to almost 7,000 homes throughout Springfield, Springfield Lakes, Augustine Heights and Brookwater.

I was delighted to stand with Mayor Paul Pisasale and Councillors David Morrison and Sheila Ireland to see firsthand the installation of the new infrastructure for our growing population.

This important and vital service is long overdue for our region and since being elected, I’ve been working closely with the NBN Corporation to see that it is rolled out as quickly as possible.

A fast and reliable internet connection is a necessity in this digital world to allow homes and businesses to access the web and connect with people all over the globe. Not only is it important for everyday activities like Facebook and Netflix, but it is also a key element to allow our local businesses to grow and prosper in the 21st century digital age.

While there is still work to be done to bridge the digital divide in our region, I’m hopeful of seeing further inroads and having more people connected to the NBN in the near future.

Further to this, the NBN rollout was certainly one of the hot topics which received lots of feedback when I held my first mobile office at Orion Springfield recently. Over the coming months, I’ll be holding more mobile offices throughout the electorate and am keen to hear ideas and suggestions from the community on what is important to you.
